Capt Amarinder’s service to Punjab commendable, says Sharma

Chandigarh: Amid speculation about Captain Amarinder Singh rejoining the Congress, Punjab BJP working president Ashwani Sharma on Friday visited the former chief minister at a private hospital in Mohali, where he is undergoing treatment, and enquired about his health.Sharma said Captain Amarinder Singh made significant contributions to the politics of Punjab and the country, and described his service to the people as commendable. He said during this difficult time, the entire BJP family stood with Captain Sahib and his family.
He also prayed for Amarinder Singh's speedy recovery and wished him a long life and good health so that he may continue serving the public.AICC general secretary and Punjab affairs in-charge Bhupesh Baghel said on Thursday that if Captain Amarinder Singh wished to return to the Congress, the party high command would consider the matter, fuelling speculation about a possible comeback.The statement came after the Directorate of Enforcement summoned Captain Amarinder Singh and his son Raninder Singh in connection with a 2016 case relating to alleged violations of foreign exchange rules under the Foreign Exchange Management Act.Extending support to the former CM, Congress MLA Pargat Singh criticised the BJP for the ED summons. He alleged that soon after Amarinder Singh publicly questioned his position within the BJP and remarked that the party did not understand Punjab, central agencies moved against him.Last year, Amarinder Singh stirred political discussion by describing the BJP as "rigid" in its functioning, in contrast to the Congress, which he termed more flexible and consultative in its internal processes.He criticised "lack of engagement" with ground-level workers in the BJP, stating that decisions were often taken at the top without adequate consultation.
