Chandigarh: After three months of flip-flop in the cross FIR involving BSP councillor Jannat Jahan Ul-Haq and the son of Kalka MLA Latika Sharma, both parties struck a compromise. Panchkula police has started proceedings of submitting a closure report in both FIRs in the local court.
The compromise was struck at the Sector 5 police station and both parties submitted affidavits in this regard.
Sources told TOI, "Both parties maintained that the incidents occured due to misunderstanding and they do not want to pursue the matter. Police accepted both affidavits and initiated proceedings. Cross FIRs were registered at the Sector 5 police station. No one was arrested."
The incident occured during a cultural event when councillor Jannat Jahan alleged that she was thrashed by the son of a Kalka MLA and his friends without any reason at Hotel Bella Vista, Sector 5, on December, 24, 2015. A woman friend of the MLA's son alleged that she was teased by Jannat's husband, Hafiz Unwar Ul-Haq, which triggered the assault.
The first FIR against the son of the Kalka MLA and his associates was registered on the statement of Jannat and the second FIR against the husband of the BSP councillor was registered on the statement of the MLA's son's woman friend.
When contacted, Hafiz Unwar Ul-Haq confirmed that both parties had called a truce. The incident made headlines when two senior BSP MPs arrived to pursue the case. One of the parties even went to the governor's house when Panchkula police did not lodge FIRs. Jannat named Latika Sharma's son and her nephew in her three-page long statement to the local police on December 26.
A senior Panchkula police officer said, "After receiving compromise affidavits from both sides, we closed the investigation. The report has been sent to Panchkula district courts."
Two days after the cultural event, Kalka MLA Latika Sharma held a press meet alleging that the woman councillor's husband abused two girls, leading to an altercation between the two parties. She admitted that she, along with her son and other family members had gone to Bella Vista for the cultural night but they left the venue before the incident.
