Bar molestation: 6 days later, police yet to catch accused

Mohali: Six days after the alleged molestation of a 23-year-old girl, and assault of her brother and friend in Zirakpur, the accused persons are still at large.

The accused are yet to be arrested even after after the registration of FIR at Zirakpur. The accused have been identified as Rohit Rathi, Varun, unidentified bouncers of Almas Club, along with other unidentified persons, who had attacked the girl’s brother and also his friend after they were thrown out from the club. The girl’s brother sustained severe injuries and had to undergo 25 stitches on his head as a result of being thrashed.

The incident took place when the five youths, including two girls and three boys went to attend the birthday party of a mutual friend at a discotheque named Junkyard, in Zirakpur.

The girl narrating the incident to TOI said the accused were staring at her since some time and touched her inappropriately on the dance floor. The girl said, “The accused were making obscene gestures and passing obscene comments. Later they touched my body parts and when I objected they started to get aggressive.”

The accused were thrown out by the bouncers and later when the five friends were coming out of the club, then the accused persons attacked the five with weapons. Besides this, the accused persons also came along with around 20 unidentified persons and bouncers from another club to thrash the victims. The girl said, “We were demanding to book the accused under Section 307, which is attempt to murder, as they hit my brother and a friend with with an intention of killing them. The two of them could have died.”

Commenting on why the accused have not been arrested yet, police said, “We are conducting raids at multiple places to arrest the accused but they are nowhere to be found, and even their phones are switched off. But they will be behind the bars soon as we have deployed our teams to look for them.”

The accused were booked under Section 354, 323, 294, 147, 148 and 149 of the IPC.
