‘Baba’ held for alleged sexual assault of migrant girl

Shimla: The Hamirpur police have arrested a baba' (self-styled godman) from a temple for allegedly sexually assaulting a girl from a migrant labour family.Locals informed the police that on Friday evening, the victim reportedly came out of the temple crying and informed her parents, who live in a slum nearby, about the incident. Enraged, the locals confronted the ‘baba' and beat him before the police arrived.
Hamirpur superintendent of police (SP) Balbir Singh has confirmed the arrest of the self-styled godman from a temple near Hamirpur town and stated that a fair and thorough investigation was under way after the registration of an FIR under relevant sections into the allegations of sexual exploitation. The victim's medical examination was also conducted.
