Jalandhar: Senior Punjab officers have submitted their replies to the Delhi Assembly's Committee of Privileges, which had given a final opportunity on February 14 to the state's additional chief secretary (home), DGP and the Jalandhar commissioner of police in a case relating to alleged breach of privilege and contempt over former Delhi chief minister Atishi's purported remarks about Sikh Gurus. Friday was the last day for filing responses.
The case stems from an FIR registered by the Jalandhar police commissionerate alleging that the video clip — shared by Delhi BJP minister Kapil Mishra and others — was doctored.

Punjab officers had earlier defended the FIR, stating it was registered in accordance with law. In their fresh replies too, they reiterated that stand, sources said. The committee had first issued notices on Feb 5 and sought responses by Feb 12, but letters sent on Feb 14 recorded that the replies had not been received.
Earlier on Friday, DGP Gaurav Yadav forwarded the Jalandhar CP's reply along with his own to the ACS (Home) for onward submission to the Delhi Assembly secretary after approval from the competent authority in the state govt.
The FIR in the Atishi video case was registered late on January 7, hours after senior leaders of the BJP, Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress had shared the clip on social media. The complainant, AAP worker Iqbal Singh alias I S Bagga, had named Mishra, SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, Congress MLAs Pargat Singh and Sukhpal Singh Khaira and "other persons". However, police did not mention their names explicitly in the FIR. A January 9 police statement on the case had drawn a strong reaction from the Delhi speaker the same day.
