ARTRAC playing key role in shaping future-ready Army leadership: HP governor

Shimla: The nature of security challenges has evolved rapidly, with cyber and information warfare emerging as major threats, making the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) role in shaping future-ready leadership and training increasingly vital, said Himachal Pradesh governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Saturday.Addressing officers and personnel of the ARTRAC and other dignitaries on the occasion of the 78th Army Day celebrations, Shukla said the training imparted by the ARTRAC not only strengthens operational capabilities but also instils ethical and human values among soldiers. The Army Day was celebrated with pride and solemnity, where the governor, as chief guest, paid rich tributes to the Army's supreme sacrifice, courage and unwavering resolve. He added that Army Day is not merely a ceremonial occasion but a reminder of the Army's unmatched bravery and steadfast commitment to safeguarding the nation's sovereignty, unity and integrity.
Describing Himachal as both Devbhoomi and Veerbhoomi, Shukla highlighted the state's deep emotional bond with the Armed forces. He said nearly every village in the state reflects a proud tradition of military service. Paying homage to soldiers' families, he acknowledged their silent sacrifices, which form the backbone of the nation's defence strength.Shukla also outlined key initiatives taken by the central govt to strengthen national security. He cited the enhanced defence allocation of Rs 6.81 lakh crore in the Union Budget 2025–26, increased funding for the Agniveer Scheme, and progress in defence indigenisation, including the successful deployment of indigenous systems. He further highlighted welfare measures such as one rank one pension revisions and expanded healthcare coverage for ex-servicemen.Earlier, ARTRAC General Officer Commander-in-Chief Lt Gen Devender Sharma welcomed the governor, while Chief of Staff Lt Gen Sukriti Singh Dahiya proposed the vote of thanks. Health and family welfare minister Colonel Dhani Ram Shandil (retd.), Shimla MP Suresh Kashyap, who served in the Air Force earlier, Shimla mayor Surinder Chauhan, and various other civil and military officers were present on the occasion.
