: Four masked men held a father-son duo captive at gunpoint and robbed their jewellery shop in Phase X in broad daylight on Monday.

Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Sector 125, Sunny Enclave, Kharar, and the owner of ‘The Indian Jewellers’ shop, said the robbers came around 12 noon. “A man walked in and started abusing me and my 25-year-old son Abhay Chauhan. Meanwhile, three more entered with bags. They tied our hands with a rope to the stairs which lead to the basement and warned that if we utter a word, they will kill Abhay.”

Rajesh, who was made to sit on one side, said while one of them kept a gun pointed at them, the others emptied boxes of jewellery worth Rs 45 lakh in less than 15 minutes. “The jewellery items included 900 grams of gold and 20kg of silver products. They also took away Rs 3.5 to Rs 4 lakh of cash,” he said.

After the accused fled, Abhay untied himself and his father and ran outside to note the registration number plate of their vehicle but failed to do so. The accused had parked their dark grey Maruti Baleno car in front of the shop. The miscreants were wearing monkey caps till their foreheads but the moment they entered the shop, they covered their whole face, sources said.

Three of the assailants were armed with pistols, Phase XI police station house officer Inspector Kulvir Kang said.

Superintendent of police (investigation) Harmandeep Singh Hans said, “We are scrutinizing footage from CCTV cameras installed near the shop. The miscreants took away the digital video recorder of the CCTV cameras installed in the shop.” Senior superintendent of police Kuldeep Singh Chahal said investigation is on.
