Mohali: Allottees of Mohali's sectors 76 to 80 are set to receive major relief from enhancement charges, with the Punjab govt working towards substantially reducing the amount, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Dr Sunny Singh Ahluwalia said on Wednesday.
Dr Ahluwalia, state general secretary of the AAP and chairman of the Punjab water supply and sewerage board, said the govt led by chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was committed to the welfare of the people and was actively addressing issues affecting residents.

Recently, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (Gmada) issued notices to allottees of these sectors, asking them to deposit enhancement charges at the rate of Rs 3,164 per square metre. The move triggered strong resentment among the residents. Taking note of their concerns, Dr Ahluwalia said he had held several meetings with senior officials to find a solution.
He added that discussions were underway to reduce the enhancement charges to Rs 839 per square metre, which would significantly ease the financial burden on the allottees. "Once approval is granted by the competent authorities, this decision will provide major relief to residents of these sectors," he said. Dr Ahluwalia stated that steep financial burden on allottees was a result of inaction by previous ruling govts, which, for political reasons, delayed the issuance of notices. This delay led to a sharp increase in charges between 2008 and 2025. tnn
