Akali factions form unity panel, Ayali its chief
Jalandhar: The four-member coordination committees of Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit) and SAD (Waris Punjab De) met here on Saturday and decided to form a ‘panthic unity coordination committee' to work towards an alliance between the two parties. Dakha MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali was chosen as the convener of the committee. Announcing the formation of the committee and his unanimous selection as convener on his Facebook page, Ayali also claimed that an "alliance" between the two parties had been achieved.Ayali said he was unanimously appointed as the convener of the committee and thanked both Akali factions. Those who participated in the meeting included Iqbal Singh Jhoondan, Gurpartap Singh Wadala and Sucha Singh Chhotepur from SAD (PS), and Paramjit Singh Johl, Babu Singh Brar, Rashpal Singh Sosan and Pargat Singh from the SAD (WPD) side.When asked whether the agreement was limited to the formation of the coordination committee or amounted to a formal alliance, Ayali said, "It is an alliance." However, he added that there were issues between the two sides, which would be worked out in future meetings.SAD (PS) secretary general Gurpartap Singh Wadala, however, said the coordination committee would work towards forging a formal alliance. Rashpal Singh Sosan said that with the formation of the eight-member committee, the alliance had been formalised.
"On Dec 2, 2024, under the directive of Akal Takht, the work of Panthic unity, which was incomplete, took its first step towards success today, and our past efforts and hard work have borne fruit. We shall make every possible effort to further strengthen the Sikh community, Punjab, and Punjabi culture, and to promote Panthic unity," Ayali posted."We appeal to all panthic, social-religious, employee and farmer organisations to join this alliance and support us in this endeavour so that we can work together for the betterment of Punjab," he added.
