Amritsar: Holding Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) member Paramjit Singh Chandok guilty of buying liquor, jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Harpreet Singh pronounced religious atonement upon him on Monday.
After hearing Chandok’s clarification, Giani held him guilty of purchasing liquor and directed him to clean shoes, utensils and listen gurbani for three days at gurdwara Sri Bangla Sahib and Gurdwara Sri Sish Ganj Sahib in Delhi.
Chandok had also been directed to offer a degh of Rs 5,100 at Akal Takht and offer prayer of forgiveness.
A video of Chandok buying liquor had gone viral on social media following which many Sikh organisations and individuals had sent complaints to Akal Takht secretariat, urging jathedar to take religious action against him. However, Chandok denied that he had bought liquor for himself. He said he was getting alcohol for someone else.
