AMBALA: The

Akal Takht jathedar

is under pressure from Shiromani Akali Dal patron Parkash Singh Badal, said former president of Haryana

Sikh Gurdwara

Management Committee (HSGMC)

Jagdish Singh Jhinda.

Addressing a press conference in Ambala on Friday, Jhinda accused jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh of being under pressure and influence of former Punjab chief minister Badal.

Jhinda had recently appeared before the Akal Takht, following which he was awarded the punishment for establishing HSGMC and undermining the role of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). He performed the atonement and taken back into the Sikh Panth on April 10.

He said he believed and respected the Akal Takht but did not consider Gurbachan Singh as the Jathedar of Akal Takht. Jhinda alleged that

Singh’s statements regarding the non-existence of HSGMC showed the influence of Badal on him.

He said he went to the Akal Takht since he was asked to appear before the supreme temporal body of Sikhs in 2014, but the situation in Punjab was not conducive then and he felt it was the right time for him to explain the reasons. “However, the statement of Gurbachan Singh about the non-existence of a separate Haryana gurdwara body is wrong,” he said.

The case challenging the formation of HSGMC is to come up in the Supreme Court on July 14. Jhinda said in case the apex court upheld existence of the committee, they would lay emphasis on education and health services. He said HSGMC members Didar Singh Nalvi and Baljit Singh Daduwal had joined hands with the SAD patron Badal.
