Shimla: A BJP delegation, led by the leader of the opposition and former chief minister Jai Ram Thakur, met Himachal Pradesh governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Thursday and submitted a memorandum highlighting interference in Delhi Police's lawful action in the
AI Impact Summit protest case and the alleged political misuse of the police machinery by the state govt.
The BJP delegation demanded a high-level investigation by the central govt into the chief minister's office, strict action against guilty officials, and accountability for political protection. Thakur emphasised that the matter concerned not just an arrest but India's international reputation and the rule of law.
Delhi And Himachal Police Face Off Over Arrest Of Protesting Youth Congress Workers At AI Summit
Thakur alleged that Delhi Police faced obstruction in Dharampur in Solan district on Wednesday, including the filing of an alleged false abduction FIR at Chirgaon police station in Rohru tehsil, despite legal orders to arrest three Youth Congress members. He warned that such political use of police machinery violated the Constitution and undermined federalism.
The leader of the opposition added that the AI Impact Summit enhanced India's global reputation, with leaders from over 20 countries and top technology companies attending. However, Youth Congress leaders staged a "shirts off" protest at the event, allegedly on the directions of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, attempting to tarnish India's image. He claimed the police worked hard to secure DVRs and documents from hotels to expose conspirators. Some accused were reportedly sheltered at Himachal Bhawan, with the chief minister allegedly facilitating bookings through his office, he claimed.
