Ashish Kumar for allegedly stalking the daughter of a bureaucrat, a Zirakpur woman complained of a similar incident.
The 19-year-old law student said a married man had been following and harassing her for the past over two months. He followed her wherever she went, she added.
On her complaint, police on Monday arrested Neeraj Chauhan, 32, of Balaji Enclave on the charge of stalking. Sources said the accused used to bring along his five-year-old daughter while stalking and even argued with the father of the girl.Wife of the accused is a government employee, while he doesn't work and stays at home.
Sources in the police said around 5.30am on Monday, he followed her to a park where she taught yoga to locals. He didn't know that the policemen were watching him. The policemen followed the accused, who became suspicious and tried to run away, but was caught by the residents and handed over to the cops. Sources said the police were able to take action because the girl reported the matter to the women helpline on Sunday . She explained her ordeal, following which the local police were informed and the trap laid.
The girl in her complaint said, “He has been following me for the past two months. He would sit in the park and stare. He even said to me, 'Aap daily aajaya karo, aapke bina dil nahi lagta' (You come daily, it's lonely without you).“
Zirakpur SHO Bhagwant Singh said, “We nabbed the accused on Monday morning when he was stalking the girl. We have booked him under relevant sections of the IPC.“ It was being said the accused was mentally unstable, but police were yet to confirm it.
