Yamunanagar: As per the estimates of the district administration, nearly 8 lakh pilgrims, both Hindus and Sikhs, have visited the
Kapal Mochan is pilgrimage to both Hindus and Sikhs as it is believed that Lord Mahadev and Lord Rama visited the place making it relevant for Hindus, and Guru Nanak Dev and Guru Gobind Singh’s visits make it holy for Sikhs. Every year lakh of pilgrims from both the communities arrive here on the eve of ‘Kartik Poornima’.
The pilgrims come here to take holy dips in three ‘sarovars’ – Kapal Mochan, Rin Mochan, and Suraj Mochan. After the bath, pilgrims pray at the shrines nearby.
Bilaspur DSP-cum-nodal officer for fair Ashish Chaudhary said, “The fair has been peaceful and not even a single incident of any untoward activity has been reported during last five days. Nearly 750 police personnel were deployed at the venue and keeping in view the high alert in Punjab, a team of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) comprising 40 commandos was also called in for four days. We also deployed a team of the bomb squad and sniffer dogs. The fair was equipped with the surveillance of CCTV cameras and drones, and nearly 20 checking posts were placed on the roads leading to the fair.”
