Chandigarh: Around 700 students and sportspersons participated in the ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ event organised by the Chandigarh administration’s sports department at the Sector 42 Sports Complex Sunday, promoting fitness, inclusivity and environmental awareness.
Organised as part of the nationwide Fit India movement, the programme began with participants taking the Fit India pledge, reaffirming their commitment to physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
A key highlight of the event was the participation of a large group of intellectually disabled children, whose enthusiasm and active involvement underscored the inclusive spirit of the initiative and inspired fellow participants.
The 5km cycle rally started from the Sector 42 Sports Complex and passed through major points including the Sector 36-37/41-42 roundabout, furniture market roundabout, Sector 43 bus stand chowk and Attawa chowk, before concluding at the starting point.
Officials said the initiative aimed to encourage cycling as a means to improve fitness, reduce pollution and promote active living. The strong turnout was seen as a step towards building a healthier and more inclusive society.
