55-year-old Army sergeant ends life

AMBALA: A 55-year-old retired Indian Army sergeant (havaldar) allegedly committed

suicide

by shooting himself in his stomach on Tuesday in Ambala. The deceased has been identified as Ranjit Singh and was a resident of Vikaspuri colony in Ambala Cantonment.

The police have recovered a suicide note, which states that the deceased ended his life as he was depressed because of his ill health.

However, the family members have ruled out the possibilities of suicide and alleged that it is a case of ‘planned murder’.

The family members claimed that the victim was not suffering from any disease and used to enjoy an active lifestyle. Singh had retired from the Indian Army from the post of a sergeant. He also had a licensed gun and was working as a security guard in a private bank in Ambala.

The police said that the deceased’s body was first seen by passersby. The passerby saw the blood-covered body lying in a vacant plot near the Sai temple and informed the police. After receiving the information, the

police along with forensic experts reached and examined the spot. The police recovered a suicide note and the deceased’s licensed gun from the spot.

The police had termed it as a suicide case. However, the family members of the deceased refused to accept it and alleged it was a case of murder. The police after conducting the post-mortem handed over Singh’s body to the family members.

said, “A suicide note was recovered from the spot. The note stated that the deceased was agitated due to his ill health, following which he committed suicide.”

He further added, “The police have recorded the statements of the family members and the case is being investigated.”
