38-year-old farmer dies after harvester touches power lines

Bathinda: A 38-year-old farmer died of electrocution when the combine harvester he was operating came in contact with overhead high-tension cables at Vidhata village in Barnala district on Monday.The deceased, Jaswinder Singh, was driving the combine to his six-acre landholding to harvest his wheat crop when the accident occurred. Locals blamed it on low-hanging electricity wires.Jaswinder, the sole earning member of his family, is survived by his parents, wife and a 14-year-old son.Village residents Surjit Singh and Avtar Singh, demanding adequate compensation for the bereaved family, said they would write to PSPCL to raise the height of the high-voltage wires to prevent such incidents.ASI Bhajan Lal, investigating officer at Tallewal police station, said a case had been registered under Section 194 (unnatural death) of BNS and further investigation is underway.
