30 families in eatery, man fires in air during party

Mohali: Police have booked a car dealer from Fatehgarh Sahib for allegedly firing in the air during a party held at a rooftop restaurant in Phase I here.Manvinder Singh alias Monty pulled out a pistol tucked in his belt and fired in the air while he and his 12 friends were partying at Glades Hotel on Sunday late night, an act caught on CCTV cameras. The hotel is just a few blocks away from the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC). Nearly 30 families were having dinner at the restaurant, police said. Scared, some of them ran for cover along with their children on hearing the gunshot.

While Monty and six of his friends left, the rest continued to dance at the venue. Hotel employees claimed that they tried to stop Monty, but he pulled out a weapon and threatened them.Cops said Monty and friends were high on alcohol. Police said they have detained Rajan Kumar, a resident of Sector 127 of Gilco Valley, who had booked a table at the restaurant, Narinder Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Gurish Ranjit Singh and Sumandeep Singh. Cops said their role in the incident was being verified. Cops are also checking CCTV cameras in the hotel to collect more details about the incident.The police also pulled up the hotel authorities for allowing firearm inside the premises.A case was registered.
