Hisar: A Hisar court has sentenced three men to life imprisonment for the murder of a farmer, who was shot dead while trying to oppose a buffalo theft, in Uklana's Sahu village over eight years ago in Hisar district.
District and sessions Judge Alka Malik convicted Fazan alias Inam, Usman alias Chhakota and Farman, all residents of Uttar Pradesh, for murder and awarded them life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh each on Fazan and Usman, and Rs 1.6 lakh on Farman. The fourth accused, Ahsan, was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
According to the prosecution, the incident dates back to Dec 27, 2017, when the Uklana police registered a murder case based on a complaint filed by Hetram, a resident of Sahu village.
In his complaint, Hetram stated that he and his younger brother Indrapal were asleep at their house when they heard noises outside at around 3am. Upon stepping out, they noticed a white pick-up vehicle parked near the house of a villager, who was shouting warnings about thieves.
When the brothers reached their cattle shed, they found one of their buffaloes missing. Suspecting theft, they approached the pick-up vehicle, where a group of men were allegedly loading the animal.
Despite being warned that the accused were armed, Indrapal moved forward in an attempt to rescue the buffalo. One of the accused then opened fire, hitting him in the abdomen. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Indrapal was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition, but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Following investigation and trial, the court found three of the accused guilty and awarded them life imprisonment, bringing closure to the prolonged case.
