Mohali: 22-year-old raped in car, SHO takes no action, suspended

: Sohana police station house officer was on Tuesday suspended for negligence in a rape case. Inspector Daljeet Singh allegedly did not take any action after receiving a complaint of a 22-year-old woman being raped in a

car

in broad daylight in Sohana on Monday. He also did not inform his senior officers of the incident, which they came to know about on Tuesday.


Source said the woman working in a call centre was going to her work place when a car stopped near her. The driver told her that he was going in the same direction and offered her a lift. Source said the girl believed him and sat in the car. The driver allegedly raped her in the car and sped away after abandoning her in Mohali.

The girl somehow managed to reach the Sohana police station and narrated the incident to inspector Daljeet Singh. Sources said he neither registered a FIR nor took any other action. He also kept his senior officers in the dark.

Mohali senior superintendent of police Harcharan Singh Bhullar said, “We have suspended inspector Daljeet Singh for negligence in rape case. We have registered a case under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the IPC at the Sohana police station and started investigation.”
