Sonipat: The Sonipat cyber police have arrested two people from Barabanki district in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly duping a local resident of Rs 4.49 lakh.
The suspects, Akshat Srivastava and Sahil, made a WhatsApp call to Omprakash of Garhi Brahmanan village in Sonipat, and tricked him into transferring Rs 4. 49 lakh in multiple transactions, according to a complaint lodged on Oct 30, 2025. The victim alleged one of the accused posed as his nephew, claiming he needed the money for the treatment of his wife. To gain trust, the accused shared a forged bank statement reflecting a transfer of Rs 16.15 lakh into the account of the victim.
A police team, led by inspector Basant Kumar, tracked the suspects using technical surveillance and arrested them from Barabanki. Police recovered two mobile phones from them. A court has remanded them in judicial custody.
