1 held for posting doctored video of woman wrestler

Jind: A 20-year-old college student has been arrested for allegedly circulating a “doctored and obscene” video of an international female wrestler from Haryana, Jind police said on Monday. The accused has been identified as Amit alias Akashy Ravan, a resident of Barwala town in Hisar district, who is studying in the first year of a BA programme. He circulated the video reportedly to garner more impressions and followers for his account.Addressing a press conference, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Ravi Khundia said that a complaint was received from the wrestler’s father that her picture was superimposed in a video, which was circulated on various social media platforms. “Jind’s CIA-1 team has nabbed the youth for using the wrestler’s picture with an intention to get more followers and impressions on his social media accounts. We have taken him on remand and he will be quizzed. The case is being investigated thoroughly. It has also come to the fore that defaming the wrestler was also one of the reasons. The accused has no previous criminal history. He has been booked under Section 66 of the Information Technology Act,” he added.The DSP also urged the people not to share the fake video else action will be taken against those involved in its further circulation. “We will also approach the social media platforms to take action against the users found sharing the fake video,” he added. The doctored video also shows a man, who has in a media conference clarified that their pictures have been superimposed to “defame” them.

Police arrest BA student for circulating morphed obscene video of female wrestler in Haryana

A 20-year-old student in Jind has been arrested for circulating a morphed video of a female wrestler. The accused, Amit alias Akashy Ravan, allegedly made the video viral to gain more followers on social media. The Jind police has taken the accused on remand for further investigation. The video was found to be doctored and was circulated to defame the wrestler. The police have urged people not to share the fake video and will take action against those who do.

Delhi court grants wrestler Bajrang Punia exemption from personal appearance in defamation case

A Delhi court has granted wrestler Bajrang Punia exemption from personal appearance for a day in a criminal defamation case filed against him by wrestling coach Naresh Dahiya. Punia's lawyer informed the court that he was in Kyrgyzstan for practice sessions and the upcoming Asian games. The judge had earlier granted him exemption on medical grounds. Dahiya has alleged that Punia made defamatory remarks against him during a press conference.
