Fazilka: The Fazilka unit of the state special operations cell (SSOC) on Wednesday busted a cross-border drug and weapons smuggling cartel with the arrest of one person and recovered 2.1 kg heroin and seven sophisticated pistols.The arrested accused was identified as Gurnam Singh alias Gama, a resident of the Bhange Wala (Jhuge Kishore Singh Wala) village in the Ferozepur district.

The recovered weapons included one 9 mm Glock, four .30 bore pistols, and two 9 mm pistols, along with 10 cartridges. Police teams also impounded a motorcycle, which was used for smuggling the contraband.The preliminary investigation revealed that the drone-dropped consignment of heroin and weapons was sourced from Pakistan-based smugglers for executing criminal activities in the state. Further investigations are underway to unravel forward and backward linkages, said the police.Fazilka SSOC assistant inspector general of police (AIG) Naresh Kumar Dogra said acting on a specific tip-off, police teams launched a special operation in the area of Jalalabad and apprehended the accused near Baghe Ke Uttar village while he was going on his motorcycle.An FIR has been registered against the arrested accused under Sections 21C and 25 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act at the SSOC police station, Fazilka.MSID:: 128783831 413 |
