Unit IX girls’ school to merge with nearby boys’ school

Bhubaneswar: The school and mass education department finally succumbed to the pressure of Rama Devi Women’s University and decided to merge the 57-year-old Government Girls’ High School, Unit IX, with the nearby Government Boys’ High School.
The university has been demanding separation of Rama Devi Higher Secondary School from the campus for lack of infrastructure. However, following the protest of parents, students and locals, the decision of shifting the girls’ high school was delayed for a few months.
After the upgrade of Rama Devi (Women’s) Degree College into a university, the classes of Rama Devi Women’s Higher Secondary School are conducted only for three hours a day from 7 am to 10 am due to want of adequate classrooms and galleries. A team of faculties from the HSS visited the school on June 27 and it was decided that the arts and commerce streams can be shifted if the wall between two rooms in each block is removed to accommodate a section containing 128 students.
