Truck-looting gang busted in Sundargarh, five arrested

Bonai police in Sundargarh district on Friday arrested five members of a gang that was engaged in looting rod-loaded trucks from highways at gunpoint.

ROURKELA: Bonai police in Sundargarh district on Friday arrested five members of a gang that was engaged in looting rod-loaded trucks from highways at gunpoint. Police claimed involvement of the gang in at least seven truck-looting cases.
The arrested have been identified as Saroj Mundari, Md Murad Ali, Sovan Subhrajit Patra, Ajit Behera and Bata, alias, Kabal Krishnan.

Police said the gang targeted steel rod loaded trucks mainly on SH-10 and NH-23. They collect information about the movement of the trucks and follow them in a vehicle. At a secluded location, they overtake the truck and intercept it. They loot steel rods and abandon the truck, police said.
"From January to June 2014, three such cases were reported from Bonai, two at Barkot of Deogarh district and one each at Bargaon of Sundargarh district and Khamar of Talcher district," said additional SP (Rourkela) R B Panigrahi.
