A supply assistant, Surendra Gamanga (35), died suddenly at a cyclone shelter in Gajapati district on Monday night. He had been working to relocate and care for people from vulnerable areas. Doctors suspect a heart attack, with the exact cause pending a post-mortem report.

Berhampur: A supply assistant engaged in a cyclone shelter at Potara panchayat in Gajapati district’s Rayagada block died after suddenly falling ill on Monday night. The deceased was identified as Surendra Gamanga (35).He was working for last two days to shift people from nearby vulnerable areas and take care of them after they were in the centre. On Monday night, he went to sleep after having dinner and inquired if all the people sheltered in the centre had their dinner.He, however, fell ill suddenly and was rushed to the district headquarter hospital, Paralakhemundi, where doctors declared him dead. Doctors suspected he might have died due to heart attack. The exact cause of death would be determined after getting the post-mortem report, said chief district medical officer (CDMO) Muhammad Mubarak. The body was handed over to the family members after post-mortem.
