SAMBALPUR: A marauding elephant killed the husband of Basanti Pradhan, the Jujumura sarpanch in Sambalpur district on Wednesday. He was identified as Gopal Pradhan (57). He owned a dhaba in Kansar gram panchayat in Jujumura block.

Gopal had gone to his dhaba at 9.30 pm on Tuesday and was sleeping outside it when an elephant attacked him between 2.30 am and 3 am on Wednesday, killing him on the spot.

Similarly, a 60-year-old man died after he was attacked by an elephant at Bhaliatikra Budikhamar village in Rairakhol forest division on Wednesday, when he had gone to collect mangoes. He was identified as Ranka Bhuyan.

In a separate incident, a 72-year-old woman was killed in an elephant attack in Kantamila village under Hindol forest range in Dhenkanal district on Tuesday night.
