Bhubaneswar: Chief electoral officer (CEO) of Odisha, R S Gopalan, additional DGP and state police nodal officer Sanjay Kumar and senior
Election Commission of India (ECI) officials, visited Nuapada on Friday to review preparations for the upcoming by-election on Nov 11.
Chairing a review meeting at the collector’s office, the CEO emphasised the need for seamless coordination between civil and police administration to ensure a free, fair and peaceful election. He underscored the importance of the 24x7 control room and prompt redressal of complaints, especially those received via the C-Vigil app.
“Serving in a byelection is a great opportunity. All officials must uphold integrity, impartiality and dedication to strengthen democracy and the Election Commission’s reputation,” Gopalan said. He also directed strict surveillance against inducements such as cash, liquor or gifts to influence voters.
Later, Gopalan interacted with polling personnel at a training centre and held a meeting with committee heads, urging meticulous execution of responsibilities. He also directed the administration to ensure basic amenities — power, water, sanitation and accessibility — at all polling stations.
