Night temp to rise from today

Bhubaneswar: Many places in the state are likely to witness a gradual rise in night temperature by 2°C to 3°C during the next couple of days from Saturday, said an IMD forecast on Friday.
Chances of shallow to moderate fog will also continue at isolated places in select districts during coming two days, the forecast added.
But normal life continued to be affected in eight towns with the mercury hovering below 10°C, the IMD report said.
H R Biswas, scientist and regional head of IMD centre in the city, said moisture inflow and reduction in the impact of northerly and north-westerly dry and cold winds are likely to influence the rise in night temperature at many places in the state.
Former director of regional IMD centre, Sarat Chandra Sahu, elaborated that night temperature is expected to rise from Saturday due to flow of moisture from sea to land. This will be with the formation of an anti-cyclonic circulation along the Odisha coast.
Sahu, now director of the centre for environment and climate in SOA deemed to be University, said there will be chances of light to moderate rain or thundershowers over north Odisha districts from December 24 to 26. This will be as a result of the influence of a combination of the anti-cyclonic circulation and western disturbance from northern India. There will also be possibility of thunderstorms on December 26 over Khurda district, he added.
On Friday, the IMD report said G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district remained coldest in the state for successive days in a week and recorded 5°C for the second time. Among other towns, Semiliguda, Phulbani, Koraput and Daringibadi were shivering at below 10°C . Bhawanipatna at 9.8°C and Bhubaneswar 14°C. There was also dense fog in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
