BERHAMPUR:
The revenue divisional commissioner (RDC
) southern division, Deepak Kumar Mohapatra
, will take over as the interim vice-chancellor of Berhampur
University on Friday. Mohapatra
will hold the post till a new VC is appointed. BU has received a communication from the chancellor's office in this regard, registrar of the university B P Rath said on Thursday.
The three-year tenure of the present vice-chancellor, J K Mohapatra, will be complete on Friday.
The process of appointment of the new vice-chancellor is likely to be completed before July-end. The governor-cum-chancellor of universities, S C Jamir, is scheduled to interact with the selected candidates for the post on July 29.
Three aspirants - present VC,
Deepak Behera, anthropology professor at Sambalapur University and Dibakar Nayak, retired professor of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) - feature on the final list, sources said.
"The governor is likely to pick up of one of them for the post after interacting with them on different issues, including higher education and their vision on developing the university," said a former VC.
After going through different aspects and following the University Grants Commission norms on selection of the new VC, the panel shortlisted the names of the three aspirants. Sources said around 30 applications were filed by senior and retired professors of various universities of the state and outside for the post. The last date of receive of application was July 3.
