BHUBANESWAR: The state government has decided to open new departments in 3 new universities- Rama Devi Women’s University at Bhubaneswar, Khallikote University at Berhampur and

Gangadhar Meher University

at Sambalpur.

Higher education department on October 12 sent a letter to chancellor of universities and governor of Odisha SC Jamir about creation of teaching posts and new departments in these universities.

According to the decision, department of Journalism and Mass Communication will be opened in

R D University

and Khallikote University.

The department has also created 137 teaching posts in these universities established on May 30, 2015. It created posts to have 23 professors, 38 associate professors and 76 assistant professors.

“We have created 67 regular teaching posts for Rama Devi Women’s University, 42 for Khallikote University and 28 for Gangadhar Meher University. The university authorities will recruit teachers by issuing notification,” said higher education secretary GVV Sarma.

RD University became the first women university in the state. To boost the institutions capacity, the state government will open three new departments in the university and appoint 21 teachers. These are Education, Business Administration and Journalism and Mass Communication. Each department will get a professor, two associate professors and four assistant professors.

Government has also decided to create 46 teaching posts including 10 professors and 12 associate professors for existing major departments of the university.
In Khallikote University, six new departments including Mass Communication and Media Technology will be opened very soon. Each department will get a professor, two associate professors and four assistant professors.

Similarly, four new departments- Anthropology, Bio-technology, Library and Information and Sociology will come up in Gangadhar Meher University. Each department will get a professor, two associate professors and four assistant professors.

“The new posts will carry usual DA and allowances as admissible from time to time. The posts created may be considered to be filled up on regular basis by open advertisement following due procedure,” said a senior official of the department.
