Man gets life imprisonment for deliberately running over biker
Keonjhar: A district and sessions court, Keonjhar, on Friday sentenced Ramsingh Munda to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for killing a man by deliberately running him over with a jeep. The court also ordered an additional one year of imprisonment in case of non-payment of the fine.According to public prosecutor Pradeep Kumar Das, the incident took place in Jan 2025. On Jan 7, 2025, Manoj Kumar Mahanta (28) of Raikala village under Keonjhar Sadar police station and Tarini Prasad Mahanta of Baneikala village went on a motorcycle to Aahikala village under Nayakot police station to collect pending finance dues from Ramsingh Munda.During an argument over the dues, Ramsingh allegedly abused and threatened them before asking them to proceed to a nearby Jana Seva Kendra, claiming he would pay them there. Manoj and Tarini left for the centre on their motorcycle, while Ramsingh followed them in his jeep.Near Shukramunda Sahi, Ram Singh allegedly drove the jeep at high speed and ran over the motorcycle at a deserted stretch of the road. Tarini Prasad Mahanta died on the spot, while Manoj Kumar Mahanta sustained serious injuries and was hospitalised. Based on Manoj’s complaint, Nayakot police registered a case and arrested the accused.While pronouncing the verdict, the district judge relied on the testimony of 11 witnesses and police investigation report before awarding the sentence.
