Man detained for raping, throwing woman off roof

Kendrapada: Police on Wednesday detained a 31-year-old man for allegedly raping a 23-year-old woman and throwing her from the fourth floor of his house in Jagatsinghpur district early on Monday, leading to her death.The woman’s naked body, bearing multiple injury marks, was found on Monday morning.“Preliminary investigation suggests the woman was thrown off the roof by the man, leading to her death. Sexual assault cannot be ruled out. Exact cause of death will be known after the autopsy report. Further details will emerge as the investigation progresses,” Jagatsinghpur SP Ankit Verma said.Police said the man was staying in the house, where the crime is suspected to have taken place, on rent. The woman was missing since Sunday while returning from a temple. Her father lodged an FIR the same night. After learning of the recovery of the body, family members rushed to the spot and identified her, police said.A special police team has been formed to probe the case. CCTV footage shows the woman entering the building with the accused on Sunday night, officers said.“We are examining all angles. Forensic analysis is underway to establish a clear sequence of events. Police have also questioned the woman’s parents, relatives and other residents of the building on Wednesday,” Verma added.
