Bhubaneswar: Light to moderate rain and thunderstorm lashed Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Sunday along with several other places under the influence of a cyclonic circulation formed over the Bay of Bengal, which is likely to develop into a low pressure area by Monday, an IMD report said.
Rainfall in the twin cities prompted waterlogging in some low lying areas, affecting lives. According to IMD’s rainfall report in the evening, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 13.4 mm and 12.8 mm rainfall, respectively.
Suliapada in Mayurbhanj district recorded the highest 70 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours, IMD’s rainfall report said.
IMD’s latest forecast said rainfall activity would continue in the state next week under the influence of the current system and another fresh system expected by Sept 25. IMD has also issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warning in some districts under the influence of the system.
An IMD bulletin said another fresh low pressure area would likely form over east-central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal around Sept 25.
The possible system after moving west-northwestwards, would very likely turn into a depression over north-west and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, off south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts around Sept 26, triggering increase in rainfall activity. It would very likely cross south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts around Sept 27, the bulletin said.
The possible rainfall activity is likely to continue till Dusshera.
