The

Gangadhar Meher University

(GMU) will offer a

course in French

from January next year. A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the university’s academic council.

Deputy registrar

U C Pati

said: “The university will run the course on a self-financing basis. The syllabus has been finalized by the academic council but we are yet to take a decision on the fees to be charged for the course and the number of seats. These will be decided in a meeting of the syndicate in the first week of January.”

A retired professor of French from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Paulasti Patel, will teach the six-month course, which is expected to increase the academic diversity of the educational institution. For the first time, the university is offering a non-conventional course. It will be offered not only to students but to professionals.

The course will increase the employability of students and be helpful for those who want to go abroad for higher studies.
