Fog brings city to standstill early morning
Bhubaneswar: After a break of several days, a blanket of fog engulfed the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Tuesday, partially affecting rail and road communication during the early hours.
This was amid slight rise in night temperature in some pockets of the state. IMD report said the dense fog that reduced visibility to 50 metres was also experienced at few more places, including Paradip, Jagatsinghpur and Angul.
IMD further forecast said dense fog warning would continue in some districts for at least two more days. Manorama Mohanty, head of regional IMD centre in the city said moisture content amid calm wind supported development of fog condition at isolated places in some pockets. She said it was purely a local phenomena.
Mohanty said dense fog warning would continue at isolated places in 10 districts during next two days. These districts are Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Angul and Dhenkanal. Besides, night temperature would also witness a gradual rise by 2°C to 3°C from Wednesday, she said.
In the wake of formation of a fresh low pressure area over equatorial Indian ocean and adjoining south-west Bay of Bengal on Tuesday, IMD scientist said this system likely to be more marked by Wednesday but would have no direct impact on the state.
IMD's latest bulletin said the system would likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean around by Wednesday. Official report said the state saw a drop in night temperature in some pockets during the day.
Hill station G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district at 7.8°C was the day’s coldest in the state. Rourkela and Phulbani in the plains followed at 10°C. City recorded minimum 18.4°C, a 0.8°C drop compared to normal.
