Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday announced that a dharamsala will be built in Puri for Kulta Samaj, while Gangadhar Bhawan will come up here in the memory of poet Gangadhar Meher, who hailed from Meher Samaj.
The announcement came after separate delegations of Kulta Samaj and Meher Samaj, two prominent backward communities of western Odisha, met Naveen here on Monday and discussed about their issues.
The delegation of Kulta Samaj, a farming community, requested Naveen to provide one acre of land and funds to build the dharamsala in Puri as lakhs of its people visit the temple town every year to pay obeisance to Lord Jagannath and Goddess Ramachandi.
Kulta Samaj members from Boudh, Subarnapur, Sambalpur and Brajarajnagar thanked Naveen for the government’s move to develop Nrusinghanath Temple in Bargarh district. Naveen directed the Puri collector to demarcate suitable land for the dharamsala within a week. He said the government will provide funds for the dharamshala and it will be completed within one year.
A delegation of Nikhil Odisha Meher (Bhulia) Samaj, a weaver community, requested Naveen to celebrate the 100th death anniversary of Meher in 2024 in a proper way.
