City doctor’s son arrested for ‘assault’

Bhubaneswar: Maitri Vihar police on Thursday arrested a doctor’s son for allegedly assaulting a youth in a city bar on Tuesday. Police identified the accused as Ren Patnaik (22), a resident of Chandrasekharpur. Ren and some of his friends allegedly assaulted the youth, who was said to be known to them. Police attributed the motive of the assault to previous enmity.“The victim was celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi near KIIT Square when one of his friends called him to the bar. When he reached there, Ren along with some others assaulted him,” a police officer said. tnn

Five arrested for assaulting guest workers

Five people were arrested in Trichy for assaulting and threatening four guest workers. The workers, who were from Uttar Pradesh, were attacked with wooden logs after celebrating at a temple. In Kerala, there has been a rise in criminal cases involving guest workers, with 6,794 registered cases since 2016. Efforts to create a database of guest workers have been unsuccessful. In Kochi, over 35,000 guest workers have been registered through the Janamaithri portal to ensure their safety.

Duo assaults woman, friends at dhaba; held

Two men have been arrested by the police in Ludhiana for assaulting a woman and attacking her friends when they tried to intervene. The accused also vandalized their SUV before fleeing the scene. The arrested men have been identified as Ishwar Singh and Kunal Mehra, both aged 22. The complaint was filed by Gurpreet Singh, who stated that the accused passed vulgar remarks and touched a woman inappropriately. The investigation is ongoing, with some of the accomplices still at large.
