BHUBANESWAR: With the BJD gearing up for major organizational activities, the party has convened a meeting of senior leaders and heads of all frontal organisations on Thursday to discuss future course of action.

Though the detailed agenda is yet to be finalized, party insiders said BJD president and chief minister Naveen Patnaik is likely to take part in the meeting through video link.

Refusing to officially comment on the proposed meeting, senior BJD leaders said the meeting will discuss the future roadmap and deliberate on the annual padyatra programme, which the party organizes on Gandhi Jayanti.

“The party has hardly undertaken any major organizational activities in the past three years because of Covid restrictions. The panchayat and civic body polls were also held amid curbs. Since less than two years is left for the forthcoming general and assembly elections, we need to energize our workers and put the house in order,” said a senior BJD leader.

Through the annual padyatra, the BJD workers plan to reach out to almost every household with the state government’s development message. The party also uses it to counter the opposition narrative.

As the party is also planning to organize training programmes for members of students, youth and women wings, Thursday’s meeting could deliberate on it. The young workers will be trained regarding organizational skills, to spread awareness on flagship programmes of the BJD government, use of social media to counter opposition attack and to disseminate party’s political agenda.
