Assistant engineer arrested for accepting Rs 20,000 bribe in Koraput

Koraput: Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday evening arrested Lambodhara Nayak, assistant engineer of Kundura block in Koraput district, while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a contractor.

According to vigilance sources, Nayak demanded the amount as illegal gratification for clearing bills related to a road construction project. “Acting on the complaint, a vigilance team laid a trap and caught him red-handed while receiving the money from the complainant,” said an official release.

“The entire bribe amount was recovered from Nayak’s possession and seized in the presence of independent witnesses. Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at various locations linked to the accused to ascertain disproportionate assets. Further details are awaited,” the release added.
