BHUBANESWAR: Abhay Kumar Srivastava on Thursday took over as the new chairman-cum-managing director of Nalco, following the superannuation of C R Pradhan.
Fifty-five-year-old Srivastava was heading the Cement Corporation of India Limited, prior to his joining the aluminium giant. However, his appointment as the
new boss of Nalco has raised several eyebrows in industry circles.
Sivastava was empanelled in the second position behind Pradhan in an interview for the post of Nalco CMD held in October, 2007.
According to sources, the panel was valid for one year. By the time Pradhan retired on Wednesday, the panel had lost validity and a fresh selection ought to have been held. Instead of doing so, the Union government posted Srivastava.
Meanwhile, a writ petition challenging Srivastava's appointment has been filed in the Orissa high court.
