Times News NetworkBhopal: Misrod police on Monday registered a case of cheating against a man who allegedly duped a 30-year-old woman and her sisters of Rs 5.6 lakh on the pretext of arranging jobs after befriending the complainant through a matrimonial website.According to police, the complainant, Reema (name changed), a resident of a colony in Misrod, came in contact with the accused, identified as Sharad Patidar, through a matrimonial platform. During their interactions, Patidar allegedly gained her trust and assured her that he could help secure jobs for her sisters.The complainant alleged that between September 2024 and subsequent months, she and her sisters transferred a total of Rs 5.60 lakh to the accused through online transactions, believing his promises of employment opportunities.Police said that despite receiving the money, the accused neither arranged any jobs nor returned the entire amount. When the family repeatedly demanded a refund, he allegedly avoided them and behaved rudely. Following persistent pressure and threats of legal action, he reportedly returned around Rs 1 lakh, but failed to refund the remaining amount.The complainant further alleged that the accused later blocked her mobile number and stopped responding to calls and messages, causing financial loss and mental distress.Based on a complaint and documents forwarded through the cyber crime wing, Misrod police registered a case under relevant provisions of the BNS, including sections related to cheating and criminal breach of trust, and launched an investigation.Police said the complainant has provided transaction screenshots, call records, chat details and other documents as evidence. Cops are examining the financial trail and verifying the allegations. Further investigations are underway.
