What a mess! 'Lizard' found in meal at Bhopal’s RGPV, staff terms it capsicum & eats it
BHOPAL: Students of Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), one of MP's premier technical universities, alleged they discovered a lizard in their meal at the university canteen, only for the canteen worker to consume the suspected item, insisting it was merely a piece of capsicum.
A video of the incident went viral on social media and has led to the formation of an inquiry committee.
The episode took place on March 18 when a group of students, including engineering undergraduates, noticed what appeared to be a lifeless lizard floating in their curry during lunch hour at the campus canteen in Gandhinagar.
When they confronted the staff, a canteen worker reportedly picked up the offending object, popped it into his mouth, chewed, and swallowed it in front of a crowd, declaring, "Yeh toh shimla mirchi ka tukda hai" (This is just a capsicum piece).
"We were horrified; how can he eat something like that to prove a point?" said one eyewitness, a third-year student who wished anonymity. The clip has garnered thousands of views, with netizens divided-some mocking the worker's "ultimate taste test," others slamming the university's hygiene standards.
RGPV announced an inquiry committee on Sunday after the video went viral to probe the allegations. "We take student welfare seriously and will ensure strict action if lapses are found," said director RGPV (UIT) Sudhir Bhadoriya. Students demand the canteen be shut until the probe is ongoing.
