Stolen medals: Now, retired Army officer accuses police of inaction
BHOPAL: A day after a martyr’s mother accused Shahpura police of demanding bribe to trace bravery medals of her son that were stolen in 2014, another retired army officer on Friday alleged that the city police did nothing to recover his medals that he lost in a theft at his residence last month.
Burglars struck at the house of Col Irfan Ahmed Khan, 57, in Green Valley on Airport Road when he along with his family had gone to Harda to celebrate Eid last month.

The thieves decamped with his medals, around Rs 40,000 cash, branded watches and jewellery worth Rs 6 lakh. A case of theft was later registered at Koh-e-Fiza police station. Khan told TOI the medals were the major achievements of his life. These included long service medal, Operation Parakram medal, Operation Rhino medal, and J&K medal. “I have met various cops and leaders, including state BJP chief Nandkumar Singh Chouhan, but have got nothing except assurances.”
A day earlier, Nirmala Sharma, a resident of Shahpura, had alleged that Shahpura police are seeking bribe to trace bravery medals of her son, Captain Devashish Sharma, which were stolen from her house in 2014. Captain Devashish of Punjab Battalion laid down his life for the country during Operation Rakshak on December 10, 1994. Later, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bhupendra Singh visited her house on Friday and promised her to make efforts for recovery of her son’s medals.
