Six swept away in nullahs

Bhopal: Rain fury claimed at least six lives in Bhopal. Bodies of three people who were washed away in nullahs were recovered on Saturday evening while several others are reported missing. Incidents have been reported from Kamla Nagar, Koh-e-Fiza, Chuna Bhatti and Chhola Mandir police station areas.

In Chuna Bhatti, a 21-year-old pass out from hotel management institute died after falling into a nullah. Police said Saurabh Katiyar, 21, a resident of Bagh Sewania, was returning home from a hotel where he worked. While crossing the nullah, he slipped and was washed away and drowned. The youth was going home to drop his sister for an exam.

In Kamla Nagar, a youth, Deepak Sahu, 23, a resident of Rajeev Nagar slums was trying to divert water from an overflowing nullah to stop it gushing inside the house when he slipped into it and was swept away. His body was later recovered by police.

A 40-year-old security guard of a school died in Koh-e-Fiza area. Police said the guard identified as Prashant Pillai was returning from Daata Colony after work when he fell in a nullah. Another security guard, who worked with him, later reported the matter with police.
