Bhopal: Amid the euphoria in India over
Rishi Sunak taking charge as the UK Prime Minister, senior
BJP leader Uma Bharti has advised BJP leaders to stay away from the debate and discussions surrounding his Indian roots. She argues that Sunak’s family migrated to England three generations ago and he is “totally British”, though his being a Hindu will work in UK’s favour.
“As Prime Minister of England, Rishi Sunak has a big challenge ahead because he has assumed charge of a country that is suffering the fruits of its deeds,” Uma tweeted on Wednesday.
She then argued, “His being of Indian descent and a Hindu is the same as all of us being Aryans. His ancestors left India three generations ago and Rishi Sunak was born in England. He is totally British. We will pray to God that Rishi Sunak is successful.”
Bharti believes that one advantage of Rishi Sunak being a Hindu is that he "would not be of small heart". “He will have the ability to take everyone along, based on the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (all the world’s a family). Perhaps with the help of this quality, he will bring his country out of its present plight,” @umasribharti tweeted.
“The debate going on in India regarding his religion and his race is ridiculous and inconsistent. What can I say to the people of
Congress? But I can tell the people of BJP that you should not get involved in this debate,” she advised.
“The subject of debate should be how the darkness of poverty has engulfed a country where once the sun never set on the empire. Will we ever become like that? In capital letters, I can say that it will not happen to us. England had very few natural resources and its wealth was plundered from the world. India has a lot of natural and intellectual wealth. We are a land from time immemorial to eternity,” she said.
