Retired judges move HC against Jabalpur civic body

BHOPAL/JABALPUR: A retired judge of the Supreme Court and a retired high court judge have moved the MP high court accusing the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) of acquiring private land for a flyover project arbitrarily.
The retired judges said that notices for acquisition of land are being issued without payment of compensation. The division bench of chief justice Mohammad Rafiq and Justice V K Shukla directed the officials of JMC and Jabalpur administration to discuss the issue with the retired judges and address their queries.
The case would now come up for hearing on July 29. Retired judge of the Supreme Court, Justice P P Naolekar and retired judge of the high court Justice S S Jha in their petition said that their houses are located on Pt Lajja Shankar Jha road in Wright Town, the breadth of road where the proposed flyover would land is more than 80 feet, which is in excess to provision in the Master Plan and that is why the process of land acquisition had to be undertaken.
The JMC has issued the notices for land acquisition but it has not specified how much land is being acquired for compensation against the land proposed to be acquired.
