Bhopal: A retired BHEL employee was duped of Rs1.45 lakh by a cyber fraudster posing as an acquaintance in Piplani area.
According to police, Ratan Singh, 60, a resident of Piplani, is a retired employee of BHEL. He received a phone call a few days ago from an unknown mobile number. The caller introduced himself as someone known to him and, during the conversation, managed to extract sensitive information related to his UPI account.
Believing the caller's voice to be that of a known person, Ratan Singh shared the requested details. Following the caller's instructions, he transferred a total of Rs1.45 lakh in two transactions to the account provided.
Later, upon realising that he was cheated, Ratan Singh lodged a complaint on the National Cybercrime Helpline number. Acting on the complaint, Piplani police have registered a case against the unidentified mobile user involved in the fraud.
Further investigation is underway to trace the accused and recover the defrauded amount.
