BHOPAL: A girlfriend’s unusual condition sent a 26-year-old taxi driver from Uttar Pradesh on a 700-km journey to Madhya Pradesh’s Datia district after she allegedly told him to prove his love by getting a selfie clicked with district collector Swapnil Wankhede or risk losing the relationship. Rajkumar Gupta, a resident of Chandauli district in Uttar Pradesh, reportedly travelled to Datia after his girlfriend insisted that if he truly loved her, he must get photographed with the collector, failing which she would stop talking to him. A taxi driver by profession, Rajkumar took the challenge seriously and travelled by train to Jhansi on Friday before reaching Datia by bus. After checking into a hotel, he headed to the collectorate on Saturday, only to find the office closed due to a holiday. He spent Sunday waiting and returned again on Monday afternoon, hoping to finally meet the officer. However, after days of travel, extreme heat, and exhaustion, Rajkumar suddenly fell ill inside the collectorate premises while an official meeting was underway. He reportedly developed severe head pain while drinking water and collapsed. Officials present at the spot rushed him to the district hospital in an official vehicle, where he was treated. When Collector Swapnil Wankhede learnt about the unusual visitor, he personally visited the hospital nearly two hours later and clicked photographs and selfies with Rajkumar, helping him fulfil the challenge. Rajkumar later sent the pictures and videos to his girlfriend, who, according to him, was “very happy” after receiving them. The journey, however, drained his savings, leaving him short of money even to pay his hotel bill. Though the collector later invited him to visit his residence after recovery, Rajkumar said his wish had always been to meet him in his office.
