: Director of Bhartiya Vidyapeeth Institute of Environmental Education and Research, Pune, Dr Erach Bharucha took the audience through the changing cultural landscape of India. He was speaking at a discussion his book 'Tribes as Living Bridges'.

Explaining the term 'living bridges' Bharucha talked about how tribal culture is a bridge between our country's past and present and how we can learn from them to gain knowledge on our future.

Speaking about how changing landscape affects the lifestyle of different communities, Dr. Bharucha said, "During my journey I met many fisher folk and was amazed to see how well they were connected with the sea. They could tell where the fish was based on the colour of the water. Their knowledge of the sea, helped them take care of it and take benefit of it. Now, as we know with the increase in pollution levels there has been a drastic drop in fish numbers. There are a lot of unsustainable activities taking place in the coastal areas. Here, we understand the importance of using indigenous knowledge to make development decisions."
